Paidha Mayor cries for government help

Zombo

Patrick Ongom Komakech  (21 October 2009)

The government should complete its unfinished projects in northern Uganda or risk being shunned during the 2011 elections, Paidha Town Council mayor Innocent Geofrey Onega has said.Mr Onega made the call while presenting a paper on the state of the newly-created Zombo District to the State Minister for Urban Planning and Development, Mr Urban Timbamanya, in Paidha on Sunday.Zombo District was carved from Nebbi District early this year. The mayor cited the delay in providing piped water to Paidha and the incomplete Nyagak Hydro Power project which has never been completed since 1986."These projects become very busy whenever it is close to elections but they are forgotten when elections are over," Mayor Onega said.He praised a Swiss donor for aiding an NGO called Povcco to help children orphaned by HIV/Aids. Dr. Rao Satapati has given the NGO over Shs800 million.Minister Timbamanya commended the mayor for properly handling government programmes like Naads and Local Government Development Programme projects.
